How to determine the replacement cycle of hydraulic oil in a hydraulic press?

To determine the replacement cycle of the hydraulic oil in a hydraulic press, the following aspects can be considered:

Refer to the equipment manual

Equipment manufacturers usually provide suggestions for the replacement cycle of hydraulic oil in the manual. Generally, based on factors such 

as the type of hydraulic press and working conditions, a rough replacement time interval is recommended, such as replacement every 1,000 to 

2,000 hours of operation or every half a year to a year.

Observe the quality of the oil

- Color change: New hydraulic oil usually has specific colors, such as light yellow or light red. If the color of the hydraulic oil becomes significantly 

darker or blacker, or if it becomes cloudy or emulsified, it indicates that the oil quality has changed and it may need to be replaced.

- Abnormal odor: Normal hydraulic oil has a slight petroleum odor. If you smell a pungent, burnt or other abnormal odor, it indicates that the

 hydraulic oil may have oxidized or been contaminated, and replacement should be considered.

- Impurity content: Through the transparent oil tank observation window or by taking a small amount of oil sample, if obvious metal debris, dust,

 fibers and other impurities are found in the oil, or if the oil becomes viscous with gel-like substances, the hydraulic oil should be replaced in time.

Test the oil indicators

- Regular inspection: At regular intervals, take an appropriate amount of hydraulic oil samples and send them to a professional testing institution

 for inspection. The testing items include viscosity, acid value, moisture content, particle size and other indicators. When these indicators exceed 

the specified range, the hydraulic oil needs to be replaced. For instance, situations such as viscosity variation exceeding ±10%, significant increase 

in acid value, moisture content exceeding 0.1%, and particle size grade not meeting equipment requirements, etc.

In combination with working conditions

- Working environment: If the hydraulic press operates in a harsh environment with high temperature, humidity and much dust, the hydraulic oil 

is prone to contamination and oxidation, and the replacement cycle should be appropriately shortened. On the contrary, in a clean and 

temperature-appropriate environment, the replacement cycle can be extended.

- Frequency of use: For hydraulic presses that are frequently used, the aging and contamination of hydraulic oil occur rapidly, and the replacement 

cycle should be shortened. For hydraulic presses that operate continuously for more than 8 hours a day, the hydraulic oil may need to be replaced 

every 3 to 6 months. For hydraulic presses that operate no more than 20 hours per week, the replacement cycle can be extended to 6 to 12 months.
